Born and raised in Cleveland, OH, on the North Shore of America, future Marconi award winner Chuck Matthews grew up listening to some of the best radio ever created.
From nationally recognized legendary rock station WMMS/The Buzzard, to CKLW/The Big 8 blowing across Lake Erie from Windsor ON, Chuck was heavily influenced at an early age how a radio station is branded. The music is the most important element, talent very important, but in between it's the imaging....the branding of a station that gives it a heartbeat...a soul. Imaging creates an imprint on the listener. A great example is WFLZ/The Power Pig in Tampa circa the early 1990s. The attitude of the station, created by the imaging, is what most remember about The Power Pig. When Chuck entered broadcasting he was fortunate to eventually work at Cleveland stations WMMS and WMJI, having a hand in shaping the brands he had listened to as a child. In 1998 while Chuck was at WMJI the station won it's first Marconi for Station of the Year and it' first Radio & Records Large Market of the Year award. That same year Chuck won two March of Dimes Achievement in Radio awards for Best Promo and Best Spot. Since then Chuck has imaged over 18 stations across America, in varied formats. Including Atlanta, Greensboro NC, Raleigh NC, Greenville-Spartanburg SC, Cleveland, Toledo, Akron, and more. Formats ranging from rock/mainstream rock, oldies/classic hits, talk/sports to HAC and CHR. Chuck additionally has been a host/writer/producer for DMX/Primestar Satellite's "Good Time Oldies" channel, and an accomplished national voice over talent. Chuck can keep it simple, or add the bigger than life sparkle 'n flash, either through writing and/or producing. If you want to light a market on fire, get Chuck Matthews to stoke the coals.
